I hear a lot of people talking about the "replacement refs" situation in the NFL. Some people are pretty upset about it and other's say, "It's just a football game." I look at sports as the original reality show, and I appreciate the several hours of respite from the daily grind it gives. BUT it's more that "Just a Football Game".
The economic impact of the NFL and College football is HUGE. I don't need to explain what it means to the cities that host games, but do you realize Monday's missed call cost about $1 Billion in losses to gamblers? 68% of the bets were on Green Bay. I can't even begin to think about how much businesses was lost on Tuesday from workers calling off because of being sick to their stomaches over their team getting a raw deal on MNF, to lost productivity of casual fans watchig the replay over and over again, then posting to social networks on company time. Even Obama Tweeted about how the execs for the NFL & it's officials need to get this figured out soon.
A congressman from Wisconsin posted the NFL exec's phone number online and they got 70,000 calls from disgruntled fans on Tuesday.
Yeah, I think it's more than "just a football game", but let's remember to play nice and not hyper focus on it.
