Big Ten Week 6
Friday 10-08-2010 3:24pm ET
Indiana @ The Ohio State University
After a monstrous output vs. Michigan, IU QB Ben Chappel is looking at his toughest game of the season. He won't go 48-64 this week, they may not even run 64 plays total this week. HC Jim Tressel has said QB Terrelle Pryor (hamstring strain) is at 100% and will be full go for this weeks test. Good news for the Bucks, bad for the Hoosiers. Iu gives up 210 YPG on the ground and has lost its #1 CB for this week. OSU 42 IU 17
Illinois @ Penn State
This is an intriguing match-up. Penn State has no offense to speak of, Robert Bolden is going through his growing pains as a starter. Illinois has played it's two losses very well. Playing Mizzou and Ohio State very tight, Mikel Leshoure should get his yards and Nate Scheelhouse will be able to exploit the Lions offense and do enough to outscore the confused Penn State Offense. ILL 24 PSU 20
Minnesota @ Wisconsin
Wisky is struggling in the worst way possible. Losing last week to Michigan State is the kind of thing that could sink the Badgers. John Clay is banged up going into the Big Ten season which leaves the power running game up to Lance Smith, who just isn't the same kind of back as Clay, very few are. Gophers HC Tim Brewster is like a boxer just waiting to catch the infamous Mike Tyson left hook. He's done, with former Kansas HC Mark "the garbage disposal" Mangino on as a "consultant" Wisky gets back on track just in time for OSU. UW 31 MINN 13
Michigan State @ Michigan
This is the matchup of the week. Denard Robinson finally has a test, and the big question will he receive a passing grade? MSU is giving up 101 rushing YPG and only 3.2 YPC. Robinson will get his yards but will the 3-3-5 defensive scheme hold up vs. the Spartan rushing attack? In a word, no. Sophmore Edwin Baker, and Freshman Le'Veon Bell have too much size and speed running the ball. In the end, whoever scores last wins. UM 34 MSU 28
Purdue @ NW
NW QB Dan Persa may be the best kept secret in the Big 10. Dual threat quarterback who runs the NW system offense so well he has grabbed comparisons to Brett Baseanz. dont expect too much running here. NW 24 PU 17
Stay Classy Big Ten, Stay Classy
Saturday 09-25-2010 2:22am ET
The weekend prior to conference play kicking for the Big 10, so you'd expect not challenging games but certainly not walk-overs. However, this weekend has turned into the college football version of a conference showdown. Eight (yes, eight) Big Ten school are in action against MAC schools, so prepare yourself for 600 minutes of awful football.
Akron vs. IU - This one may not be so bad considering it's the Hoosiers, but Indiana boasts a 34-6-1 record for the MAC I'll take Indiana by 2 Tds
Ball State vs. Iowa - This one won't be a blowout, but only because Iowa doesn't have the offense to blow ANYBODY out. Adam Robinson will get his numbers, Stanzi will get picked off at least once. Iowa by 20.
BG vs. UM - Gross. No defense whatsoever in this one. Michigan gave us yards up and down the fields vs. UMASS. Denard Robinson will get his 400 APY, however BG, has two stars on offense (that's one more than UM) RB Willie Geter who is coming a 31 Carry performance for over 100 Yds, and the Nation's Leading Receiver, Kamar Jorden 34 Rec 343 Yds and 1 TD. However , starting QB for is out with a shoulder injury, so best case scenario BG plays close for 3 quarters. UM by 10 in a shootout.
Northern Colorado vs. MSU - Yes Northern Colorado is a school and they have a football in the Big Sky Conference. Pretty darn good too, NCU leads the Big Sky in Rushing 201 YPG, and scoring 45.7 PPG. While Sparty has a history of laying down after a big win. MSU has cracked the top 25, but will the distraction of Coach Dantonio's health it doesn't look good for MSU. NCU by 3.
Northern Illinois vs. Minnesota - I would rather watch Jersey Shore than this football game. Minny has no identity of Offense and now Coach Brewster is looking over his back at "consultant" Mark Mangino (buy stock in Krispy Kreme, and lots of it) NIU QB Chandler Harnish is one of the best kept secrets in the nation. 19-25 for 207 and 11 carries for 115 vs. ILL. I'm taking NIU by 7.
Central Michigan vs. Northwestern - NU has a football but no one in Illinois cares. Big Offensive threat in NU QB Dan Persa, Career high 307 Yds last week. However CMU is the Dodge Viper of the MAC West. Ryan Radcliffe is the Most Efficient QB in the MAC with a rating at 144.7. TB Parris Cotton totaled 209 rushing yards last week, I'm going with the upset CMU by 3.
Eastern Michigan vs. Ohio State - Ron English is in trouble. Lost 15 in a row times are bad, however in Jim Tressel tenure at YSU he was 1-4 vs. EMU. 49-0 At the half scout team in by 3rd quarter. Ugly, Ugly , Ugly. The only thing that makes me wonder is why they bumped this to 3:30 on ABC. Normally when you take a beating like EMU will tomorrow you get 8-10 Yrs.
Temple vs. Penn State (aka Al Golden's Job Interview) If Temple ever had a shot to beat the in-state Beavers, this is it. Freshman QB Rob Bolden has been pretty solid 50-85 for 600 Yds. However PSU is 26-0 vs Temple since 1975. But, the Owls have quite the running back. Bernard Pierce, remeber this name you'll hear it on Sundays before too long. 56 Carries for 301 Yds and 3 Tds, close game but I'm taking the Nits by 10
Toledo vs. Purdue - Toledo is just bad, last in the MAC in Total Offense and Passing (128YPG) Purdue QB Robert Marve is a game-time decision, but it doesn't matter. Anyone can put up big numbers in that offense. Purdue by 13, in a game I won't watch, I'd rather do Laundry, yeah Laundry.
Austin Peay vs. Wisonsin - To get away from Big Ten vs MAC monotony, The Badgers play Austin Peay of the Ohio Valley Conference. Wait, was Kent State busy? Seriously, you pass up a shot to beat up on a MAC team to play Austin Peay? UW has done anything but roll over teams from the 1-AA, only winning by 17.3 points per game. They needed OT to beat Cal Poly last year, didn't know they played football, but they have a whale of a Math Olympics Team. UW by 20, same as Iowa, don't have the Aerial Attack to blow anyone out.
Kiffin says It's time....to coach USC
Wednesday 01-13-2010 11:51am ET
Hello Sports Fans!
Lane Kiffin has been announced as the next Head Coach of The University of Southern California, Mike Garrett USC Athletic Director stated late tuesday night. "We are really excited to welcome Lane Kiffin back to USC," Garrett said in a statement. "I was able to watch him closely when he was an assistant with us and what I saw was a bright, creative young coach who I thought would make an excellent head coach here if the opportunity ever arose. I'm confident he and his staff will keep USC football performing at the high level that we expect." Kiffin held a press conference last night stating : "This was not an easy decision," he said Tuesday night. This is something that happens very quick. We've been here 14 months, and the support has been unbelievable here. I really believe the only place I would have left here to go was ... Southern California." Kiffin, the former Oakland Raiders coach, led the Volunteers for only one season. Kiffin has been on the move of late. He was 7-6 in his one season at Tennessee and 5-15 in one-plus seasons with the Raiders before being fired in September 2008. He was a member of the USC coaching staff from 2001 to '06, first as wide receivers coach and then as offensive coordinator under Carroll. Kiffin's contract calls for him to pay a $800,000 buyout for leaving Tennessee after only one season. Trojan Quarterback Matt Barkley loves the decision made by Trojan brass, "It's great news, I remember meeting Kiff way back on the recruiting trail when I was a freshman in high school. I liked him when I met him. I like that he knows how to live and breathe the Trojan way." The Rocky Top faithful did not take too well to the news, as rioting resulted from the news. A large number of students started chanting several profane messages and eventually had to be subdued by law enforcement with tear gas. The person who looks like a genius in this situation, none other than Oakland Raiders dinosaur Al Davis. He called Kiffin a "flat-out liar" and said he was guilty of "bringing disgrace to the organization." It will interesting to see how USC is able to handle this character as their head coach when his image is not doing him any favors. The following chronicles his discrepencies at Tennesee.
Feb. 5: Kiffin accuses Florida head coach Urban Meyer of recruiting violations. Nov. 12: Three freshmen involved in robbery (two were later kicked off the team). Dec. 31: Tennessee loses 37-14 to Virginia Tech in Chick-fil-A Bowl.
Tennessee faces at least two more violations as the NCAA continues an ongoing inquiry into infractions like the possible misuse of recruiting hostesses and impermissible visits. The Vols committed at least six secondary NCAA violations. The next few months will certainly be interesting in Los Angelos, definitely something to keep an eye on.

Hello Sports Fans!
December 26, 2009 Gator Nation felt an earthquake that would shake the very foundation of success when University of Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer announced he would resign as Head Coach. Meyer stated: “I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family.” He also said: “I’m proud to be a part of the Gainesville community and the Gator Nation and I plan to remain in Gainesville and involved with the University of Florida." Meyer had been admitted into a Gainesville hospital on December 6 after the Gators' loss in the 2009 SEC Championship Game due to dehydration. Meyer said that he had been experiencing similar problems for many years. It was revealed that Meyer's current health problems include a non-life threatening heart muscle defect, and persistent headaches caused by an arachnoid cyst. Meyer also said that his problems were related to stress. Not but a day later Meyer made more public news by stating this was " A leave of Absence" which he has been thrown under the bus for. Whether this be a ploy to keep his highly ranked incoming recruiting class to their verbal commitments or the god's honest truth you can't deny his success. Since Meyer's debut with Bowling Green in 2001 he has won no less that 8 games in a year. Including a very impressive 56-10 record at the University of Florida. To call his tenure at Florida a success would be an insult to the man himself, so allow the numbers to speak for themself. Two South Eastern Conference Titles (UF had on 6 prior) as well as Two National Championships. (UF had 1 prior) Meyer also claims the highest winning percentage amoung active coaches, winning at nearly an 81% clip. In this an era of selfishness knowing no bounds, a Head Coach of a major player in the College Football scheme not knowing if he intends to continue on coaching due to significant health concerns I say give him all the time he needs. He's more than earned it.

Brady Quinn Out for The Reminder of Season
Tuesday 12-22-2009 11:55am ET
Head Coach (for the time being) Eric Mangini said in a press conference today that starting QB Brady Quinn is going to be inactive for the final two games of the regular season. It is said that Quinn injured his right foot on a bootleg play late in the fourth quarter of a 41-34 victory against the Kansas city Chiefs. Quinn began the season as Cleveland's starter but was benched after 10 quarters. He was reinserted as starter on Nov. 16 against Baltimore. Quinn went 2-7 in nine starts. Mangini was not specific about any details on the injury other than to indicate surgery was needed. Derek Anderson has been named starting Quarterback for the next game this sunday against Oakland. The Browns are 1-5 in games featuring Derek Anderson with the lone victory coming against Buffalo. Anderson was 2-17 for 23 yards and one interception. Andersons' Quarterback rating is 36.1 which is last in the league.
St Wendelin @ Mohawk December 17, 2009
Friday 12-18-2009 11:53am ET
Hey Sports Fans!
If you weren't out at Mohawk High School last night you missed a whale of a game. Mohawk came out on fire last night, putting a beatdown on St Wendelin in the first few minutes, and before St. Wendelin could blink it was 11-0 Warriors. Drew Trusty was the man behind the perimeter shooting assault hitting 2 of his first 3 trifecta's. However STW would not go away without a fight clawing back and outscoring the Warriors 11-4 in the final 5 Minutes of first quarter action. They eventually took the lead in the second quarter before Caleb Coil of Mohawk made a shot to beat the buzzer at halftime which put Mohawk back on top 26-25 at the half. While Mohawk had the long shot working for them St. Wendelin's gameplan was to get the ball inside and feed their big man Elli Hipsher. The 6'2 senior carried STW and kept them in the game well into the second half. After 3 Quarters of play Mohawk still had the lead (41-37) but all the Momentum went to the team in black. I knew it would all come down to free throw shooting where St. Wendelin clearly had the advantedge and they pulled away late in the fourth leading by as many as 5 points. With 3.1 seconds left Hipsher was sent to the line for two game clinching free throws while holding a 3 point advantedge. The first one circled the rim for almost two rotations before it dropped in the cylinder and Hipsher threw his hands in the air for a victory. Great Game as we all suspected, Elli Hipsher lead St. Wendelin with 19 points while Drew Trusty who had 21 points on 7 three point buckets. I'd like to thank Erik Baker Athletic Director of Mohawk and all the parents at Mohawk who have always treated our staff with only the highest level of respect. I'll catch up with all you dedicated listers next time January 5 when Majic 95.9 brings you Galion vs Upper Sandusky Girls Basketball
