Thousands expected to protest in Lansing

(NEWSER– It's a huge day for labor in Michigan. The state House of Representatives has passed a pair of right-to-work bills that make it illegal to require the payment of union dues in order to work. They now head to the desk of Gov. Rick Snyder, who will sign them as early as tomorrow. Some 10,000 people were in Lansing to protest—probably more demonstrators than the state capitol has ever seen, the Detroit Free Press notes. As the crowd beat drums and chanted, United Auto Workers president Bob King called the bills "a national attack," the Free Pressreports. "Unions built the middle class of America," he said.
