Marion Police Officers arrested two men Thursday morning on drug charges after what had started as a routine traffic stop.

According to police, officers had stopped a car for a traffic violation in the 100 block of N. Main St. at around 9:30 a.m., after being stopped, the driver reportedly took off running and was caught six blocks away with help from a citizen who happened to be driving by. After originally being arrested for obstructing official business, police found a heroin package concealed in his underwear once he was transported to jail.

The passenger was also arrested after other drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle. Both suspects, Bruce Baker, 30, and Rashawn Thomas, 24, are from Chicago but have been living in Marion.

Baker and Thomas were charged with trafficking, drug possession, conveyance into a detention center, and tampering with evidence.
