We have an update on a man who was accidentally shot by his toddler on Sunday. Marion police have identified the victim as 24-year-old Walter J. Call III of Scranton Avenue. Police say that the man’s son, just a month shy of 3 years old, got his hands on a gun while the victim was asleep on the couch. Police say the only other person in the house at the time was a 5-year-old daughter. No one else was injured. Police were called to the home Sunday afternoon responding to a call of a gunshot victim, who was found with a wound to his right side just above the belt line. Police say they confiscated multiple weapons, including the handgun that was used in the accidental shooting. Marion County Children Services has been notified of the incident, and the Marion City Prosecutor’s office is reviewing the case for possible charges. The police department says this case should serve as a reminder that gun owners are responsible for keeping loaded weapons secure and out of the reach of children.
